Social networking - the search of the magic formula
Virtual beer and smilies doesn't seem to be enough to keep the interest in social networking. The search of the magic formula continues. In the national virtual space is happening the same as in other parts of the world. Decline in traffic to Facebook and MySpace is a fact and it's coming our way.
Winning the loyalty of the users has to be through more functionality. It can be planning different events, more online actions like shopping, orders, reviews, etc. Pierce-Grove is noting that in the moment the hardest task is having a working formula that can keep the attention of users and if somebody makes up that formula it will normalize the situation and set the trend upwards again. It's logical that anybody will stay longer on a social network if he/she has something to do there.
Results show that there is a 8% decline in visits from January to March 2008 compared to last year. A MySpace report shows the same figures. Feb 2007 showed 68 000 000 registrations which growed to 72 000 000 in October. The median visit lenght lowered from 195.6 to 161.3 minutes. The speaker for comScore, Andrew Lipsman says the situation is in a global decline due to the lack of freshness. |
